From Northern Liberties to West Philly, tour solar installations in an urban environment.
Buildings featured on this tour not only showcase solar photovoltaic and solar thermal systems in an urban environment, but also offer a look into sustainable living in cities through a variety of green building techniques. There are over seventy solar installations and many sustainable buildings in Philadelphia, join MSEIA in viewing some of these.

One of the 2 suburban tours offered, this tour will feature solar installations in Delaware, Chester and Montgomery Counties. The tour will include roof and ground mounted systems on both residential and commercial scales, including a 35kW solar photovoltaic system at the Westtown School. Other features of this tour include public and municipal projects in Media, PA and a building integrated photovoltaic system.

Suburban Solar Tour II is similar to Suburban Solar Tour I, but will showcase projects in more rural areas, centering in Chester County. The tour will feature both roof and ground mounted systems on homes, small businesses, farms, and a vineyard, including trackers and other innovative system designs.

This tour will offer participants a look at large-scale solar photovoltaic systems, and will include traveling on one of SEPTA’s many hybrid diesel buses. Different from residential, small business and other smaller-scale commercial projects, the systems featured on this tour show the exciting future of alternative energy production in PA. Amongst the commercial systems featured on this tour are the largest PV system installed in our state, a 3 megawatt solar power plant in Fairless Hills, a 75kW roof-mounted system on the Ortho-McNeil facility in Spring House, and more. The tour will also offer information and discussion about the development and financing of these systems.
